Melbourne hotel, The Batman’s Hill recently completed a $2.5 million renovation. The beautiful hotel now presents guests with stunning upgrades to all 60 Premiere King rooms in their Heritage wing – once housing the state bank of Victoria 120 years ago. This project is part of a wider initiative that will see building improvements continue into 2022.
The new guest room design includes large King size beds with an additional lounge area that converts into a third bed option; picture rails emphasizing the 12-foot high ceilings which were common in building architecture during the turn of last century, complimenting a focus on bringing back many of the heritage “olde worlde” features already existing in our façade and ornate lobby.
A key interest point from interior designer Erica Richardson of AFS is the fabric and textures used from bedheads and soft furnishings through to the large mini bar units where you can mix your own favourite cocktail from ingredients the hotel team can provide. Erica chose the old tram cars of Melbourne’s yesteryear to inspire the room design and features like the open robes highlight brass rails and grained timber.
The bathrooms are where the biggest impacts lie; dark floor to ceiling tiling and backlit mirrors giving a modern touch to offset the heritage feel. With spacious walk-in showers complete with 30cm rainforest showerheads, make for an indulgent experience as you wash away a day spent traversing Melbourne’s unique laneways and attractions.
Melbourne’s heritage and history are important but not everything; therefore, inspired environmentally friendly initiatives have also been introduced. Branded shower timers are gifted to guests in all rooms to encourage water conservation. All hotel guests are invited to join “Our green Dream” and receive a house credit of $10 per room which is given to anyone who chooses to support this initiative whilst being a guest. The Batman’s also encourage our guests to leave used soap in the room for recycling through one of their partners Soap Aid for distributing in developing countries achieving dual goals of improving hygiene to save lives and reducing waste sent to landfills in Australia.
The team are proud to unveil the historically restored rooms. “This exciting project demonstrates our commitment to providing our guests with quality, affordable accommodation in the heart of Melbourne and we have options to suit everyone, whether you’re staying with us for business or leisure.”
According to Kevin Birchall, the hotel’s general manager, Batman’s biggest point of difference is its variety of room types and star rating. He told us: “We are spread across three separate but interconnected buildings and have a room suitable for all market segments and price points. From standard rooms which are great for budget-conscious travellers; to the recently renovated premiere rooms -great for international leisure markets from the US, Europe and Asia; and the apartments which suit families; long stay guests and groups of friends).”
Think Melbourne Hotel, Think Batman's Hill.
